Optum Data Management (ODM) is a key unit of Optum that provides data management products and services to other UHG and commercial customers. As ODM transitions to Agile project delivery, the natural progression is to adopt DevOps support as a means to drive more effective product / service support across the ODM portfolio. As Director of ODM DevOps, you will have responsibility for building a framework for DevOps support and adapting this framework to meet the support needs across the portfolio. You will drive the implementation program to include framework adaptation, business case justification, teaming with stakeholders, executing the plan to get DevOps implemented and driving the business benefits defined for each targeted scenario.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design a standard DevOps framework for ODM products/services and adapt standard Dev/Ops framework to a wide range of data assets in the ODM portfolio
  • Define comprehensive DevOps strategy to include scope, purpose, business case, financial analysis, integration with other key programs
  • Establish, launch and execute tactical plan based on priority order to drive DevOps implementation agenda and desired outcomes
  • Ensure ODM DevOps framework and implementations address planning, performance monitoring/tracking, service level expectations, scalability/economies of scale
  • Participate as ODM DevOps representative in any OT or UHG level DevOps activities
  • Govern, collaborate and influence the appropriate usage of domain/expertise in DevOps designs
  • Hands on DevOps planning and validation with team building, coaching / mentoring skills and conflict resolution experience
  • Develop and maintain, direct/drive multiple and concurrent technology projects
  • Design and implement effective cross-functional processes/working relationships to achieve smooth transition and operational optimization of work between teams
  • Manage and optimize workload; internal/external, enterprise/local
  • Actively support and drive UHG’s “Our United Culture” program
  • Serve as DevOps liaison to divisional and/or shared service leadership
  • Facilitate and lead cross-org teams involving OT, Business, others
  • Define service levels and commitments (cycle time, quality, cost) for all key DevOps targets
  • Establish and lead the cross-organizational DevOps governance committee, if applicable
  • Define the measures, metrics and performance / outcome reporting to size DevOps opportunities and report/monitor tangible/measurable benefits
  • Assess operational integrity and risk associated with governance of DevOPs program and support relationships
  • Ensure DevOps activities factor in quality, performance and scalability
  • Take a practical, pragmatic and results oriented approach to targeting and executing DevOps agenda
  • Manage related budgets, drive cost control measures, seek out efficiencies, and improve technological capabilities in support of Optum business activities
  • Recruit, supervise, develop, and coach staff. Provide leadership and mentorship to direct as well as matrixed team members
  • Actively support and drive UHGs United Culture program
  • Track record of success leading through influence (vs. direct authority)
  • Proven cross-functional collaborator with strong partnering skills
  • Strong executive presence and demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership
  • Self-directed approach with positive attitude
  • Able to champion recommendations in front of executive management with effective formal presentation and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated success leading and embracing change.  Ability to effectively deal with moderate levels of ambiguity – can shift gears comfortably and handle risk and uncertainty

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in Technology, Operations and/or Finance
  • Prior experience managing director-level direct/indirect reports in a cross matrixed or virtual environment
  • 8+ years of experience in one or more aspects of information technology operations, development or other IT areas
  • 2+ years of prior experience driving system consolidation or decommissioning program
  • 4+ years of experience specifically in planning, business case development, return-on-investment analysis
  • 2+ years of Program Management experience
  • Available locations for this position are: Minnetonka, MN (most preferred); Raleigh, NC; Boston, MA; Rocky Hill, CT

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience design and implementing DevOps support
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous UnitedHealth Group management experience
  • Extensive ITIL experience
  • Software and Services management experience
  • Business Analysis experience
  • Graduate Degree – MBA or advanced Technical degree
